Dr.Praful Kelkar grew up in a musical family and learnt tabla & sitar for a number of years. He has been studying Sarod under the guidance of renowned Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. He has played concerts at various venues in the US and in India including for IMSOM.

Bios of the performers:
Sandhya Ramachandran is a 13 year old with interests in Indian and Western Classical music. She has been studying Carnatic violin for five years with Sri Mullaivasal Chandramouli, an accomplished violinist in Chennai, India. Sandhya will spend this August in India studying with him. She also has been a student of Carnatic vocal music for the past six years with Smt. Nirmala Rajashekar at the Naadha Rasa Center for Music. She has participated in many community events including the annual Aradhana, the Festival of Nations, and events at The Minneapolis Institute of the Arts and local libraries. She has also won awards in Carnatic music competitions such as the Minnesota Carnatic Star for violin organized by the Carnatica Brothers, and Vibha Taal.

Sandhya has been learning Western Classical violin since she was four years old and is now is studying with Mr. Vali Phillips of the Minnesota Orchestra. She has played Irish and American fiddle and won several awards including the Laura Ingalls Fiddle Competition, the Rochester Fiddle contest, and the Grand Prize at the Minnesota Feis. She attends school at the St. Paul Academy, and will be entering upper school in the fall. She has arranged and played the music for her school's production of The Secret Garden and sings in her school Choir.

She is grateful to Sri Sriram Natarajan and Sri Balaji Chandran for accompanying her and MICMC for the opportunity to perform. Sandhya also thanks her Appa, Amma, and little brother Arjun for helping her with her practice.

Vijay Ramanathan Vijay Ramanathan is a highly accomplished vocalist and composer based in Eden Prairie, MN. He has received extensive training in Carnatic music from his mother, Leela Ramanathan, and has performed in numerous classical and light music concerts. He was a featured performer in the local television program, "Geetmala," in 2010 and 2011. Vijay also composes music for stage, film and television, and operates his own recording center, DigiRaga Studios. Vijay has released a music album, "Namah", a collection of Hindu devotional songs.

Sriram Natarajan on the Mridangam Sriram is a versatile Mridangam artiste and collaborative world musician. Sriram started training on the Mridangam at the age of 9, under the veteran Guru Sri K V Maniappan in Mumbai. Presently under the able guidance of Tanjavur Sri Murugaboopathy, Sriram has had advanced training from Sangeetha Kalanidhi Padma Sri Palghat Raghu. His style of accompaniment is very adaptive to both instrumental and vocal music. Sriram regularly accompanies renowned and upcoming artistes in India during the December music season in Chennai. He travels around the US and has performed at several venues in the cities of Chicago, Madison, Boston, Columbus, Philadelphia and across the state of Minnesota. His world music collaborations include the St Olaf Jazz Band, Northfield MN, Kora Artiste Mamdou Diabate at the Festival of Nations in St Paul MN and the Brass Kings. Sriram is a resident of Apple Valley MN and is the founder of the Layyasaaram school of music.

Balaji Chandran on Ghatam Balaji Chandran started his Carnatic percussion studies in Mridhangam under Sri.Kovai Mani and Sri. Kadayanallur Narayana Iyer. He is a disciple of Sri.Ghatam V.Suresh from whom he learns Ghatam for the past 5 years. He brings with him an energetic style of playing the Ghatam bestowed upon him by his guru. He has provided his percussive support to many artists in America and in India. He considers himself very fortunate to have had the opportunity to lend support to stalwarts like Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sri.R.K Srikantan, Prof. Ramakanth, Isai Peroli Sri. Neyveli Santhanagopalan and stars of current generation like Smt. Nirmala Rajasekar, Smt. Sikkil Mala Chandrashekar, Sri Suryaprakash, Sri. Mullaivasal Chandramauli, Sri. Mysore Chandan Kumar. He has been part of the Aradhana celebrations in Minnesota, USA for the past 8 years, and has performed in many venues across America. He also features in the first Carnatic Audio album released by an Independent American record label Innova Records called “Song of the Veena”. He was part of an ensemble that won the top honors in the recently conducted carnatic music competition held by “International society of Laya awareness” in Chennai. He has collaborated with St.Olaf Collage Jazz band and “Brass Kings” an American Blue Grass Jazz band. He is also adept in playing the Kanjira and has also lent his support in both Mridhangam and Ghatam for Bharathanatyam Arengetrams.

Prachi Apte (Hindustani Vocal)
Prachi Apte is the co-founder of MICMC. She is a vocalist, trained in both Classical and light music. Her mother, Mrs.Sujata Apte, has played a key role in shaping Prachi's vocal style and inculcating a strict discipline for sur-taal. Prachi has had Hindustani classical training from Pt. Prabhakar Dharmadhikari, Mrs. Swarada Sathe and Mrs. Vibha Sampath. For the past two years, she has been learning from Ms. Anuradha Kuber, a young and prominent performer of the Bhendi Bazar gharana.

As a member of the local Inmusic band, Prachi has performed at many community and private events across the Midwest. Prachi also enjoys participating in music competitions to keep herself motivated. Recently, she won the Spandana Supersinger title, was a finalist in the iamnextsuperstar challenge (judged by Mr. Suresh Wadkar and Mr. Sonu Nigam) and recorded for channel tpt-MN for Geetmala Season 2011.

Pallavi Dharwada (Carnatic Vocal)
Pallavi learnt Carnatic vocal music from Dr.Pantula Rama, a TOP grade artiste in All India Radio in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. She won several prestigious awards and prizes in India at both state and central level including the south central zone thirty-minute concert-competition conducted by the Government of Karnataka in the year 1999. Pallavi was awarded the Senior-level scholarship for the period 1998-2000 by the Government of India, Ministry of human resources. She represented Andhra Pradesh in the National Youth Festivals conducted in Ahmedabad in the year 2000.

Pallavi performed concerts at various prestigious venues in India such as Kala Samithi, Saraswati Gana Sabha, N.Ch.Parishad and in U.S. at Nashville, TN, Atlanta, GA and Columbus, OH. Pallavi performed in rare musical projects such as Nowka Charitram and Prahlada Bhakti Vijayam - the two Musical Operas of Sri Tyagaraja. Pallavi is the co-founder of Minnesota Indian Classical Musicians Club (MICMC) that promotes local talent in the Minneapolis twin-cities area and actively volunteers for Indian Music Society of Minnesota(IMSOM), the premier Indian arts and cultural organization in Twincities. Pallavi currently works for Honeywell in Minneapolis.

Krishnakumar Iyer (Carnatic Vocal)
Krishnakumar Iyer has learnt Carnatic vocals for 5 years from Mr. Venkataraman, Retd: Professor at Swati Tirunal Academy, Thiruvananthapuram. He has also been part of Inmusic, a Minneapolis based Indian light music band, from its inception in 2005. He has a Masters degree in Industrial Engineering and Business Administration from the University of Minnesota and is a Supply Chain Manager by profession.

Vinod Krishnan (Carnatic Vocal)
Vinod Krishnan has been a student of Carnatic music since his childhood. Initiated by his mother, he has had the opportunity to learn from great teachers like Neyveli Santhanagopalan and Madurai TN Seshagopalan. Currently, he is receiving training from Madurai R. Sundar, who is also a disciple of TN Seshagopalan. Vinod has also forayed into Western classical music on the keyboard and Hindustani Classical and often composes for fun.

Maduri Narsimhan (Carnatic Veena)
Maduri has been learning veena for the last 4 years. She started under the tutelage of Mrs Revathy Srinivasan, and continues to learn from Mrs Nirmala Rajasekar. She has participated in various events including Veena Conference at Chicago and Festival of Nations at Minneapolis. She is a software engineer by profession.

Balaji Sridhar (Carnatic Mridangam)
Balaji has learnt Mridangam with various teachers for about 10 years in India and is interested in drums from all around the world.

Bios of the performers:
Mahati Pidaparti has been learning Carnatic music for the past ten years. She started learning from Smt. Ramanammma Manda and is currently learning from Smt. Nirmala Rajasekar and Smt. Bhargavi Ganesh. She has participated in many community events, such as the annual Aradhana, Festival of Nations, temple events, etc. She has been leading the assembly at the Hindu American Temple School for the past two years. She is currently a junior at Wayzata High School and is a member of the National Youth Leadership Council.

Geetha Janardhana is learning music under the tutelage of Prof. T. S Rama, who is an A grade artiste at All India Radio. She has accompanied her guru on many occasions like Doordarshan South Zone program and a radio feature by Gyan Vani on Goddess Durga during Navarathri. She has also won the Yuva Kala Pratibha Puraskara for the year 2007, from Sangeetha Nritya Academy, Govt. of Karnataka. She has participated in numerous competitions and won many prizes.

Prashanth Gururaja on Violin grew up in New Jersey, where he learned Carnatic violin under Mysore Sateesh, Ganesh Kumar, and Anantha Krishnan. He performs frequently in classical concerts with local and international artists around the Midwest, Northeast, and Toronto. He also regularly performs in Carnatic and world music ensembles around Detroit/Ann Arbor, Michigan. He has continued his Carnatic training under Jayshankar Balan in Detroit. Prashanth currently lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he graduated from the University of Michigan and works as an engineer for the US Environmental Protection Agency.
